Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

In this action drama, Tom Berenger plays the ex-soldier of fortune who seeks revenge when his teacher girlfriend, Diane Venora, is savagely beaten up by one of her disgruntled students. Taking over her job at Columbus High School, Berenger uses mercenary tactics against the drug gang behind the attack. Supposedly a gritty look at a tabloid social problem, director Robert Mandel's contemporary Blackboard Jungle meets Rambo nudges towards mindless camp far too often to be taken as anything but trashy exploitation. Berenger's poor Steven Seagal impression doesn't help and by the time a rocket launcher is set up in the school corridors for the brainless climax, unintentional humour has completely overtaken any serious intent.
