Into the Badlands

More might have been expected from this portmanteau made-for-cable movie, which gathers together three supernatural cowboy tales from writers including the fine western novelist Will Henry. But, frankly, it's a mess, unredeemed by an interesting cast that features Helen Hunt, who was simply magnificent opposite Jack Nicholson in As Good as It Gets. Dylan McDermott and Mariel Hemingway also appear, and Bruce Dern as a bounty hunter holds the trio of stories together in fact, it's Dern's narration that provides most of the pleasure. Watch by all means, but don't expect too much.
