Swashbuckling adventure starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr and Maureen O'Hara. Sinbad, renowned as a teller of improbable tales, describes a hunt for treasure hidden beneath Alexander the Great's palace, during which he falls in love with Shireen, the Emir of Daibul's favourite slave girl.
In this splendid Technicolor romp, Douglas Fairbanks Jr ably follows in the dashing footsteps of his father. He stars as swashbuckling hero Sinbad, who searches for hidden treasure - while fending off the evil machinations of villains Walter Slezak and Anthony Quinn - and falls for beautiful slave girl Shireen, played by green-eyed, red-headed Maureen O'Hara. The costumes lack flair (as does the plot), and the whole thing's very juvenile, but there's no denying the film's sense of joie de vivre, and that's a very admirable commodity. The right tone is defined from the opening: this is great fun.
