Two wealthy teenage girls idolise a womanising pianist and follow him around New York, thwarting his efforts to seduce a married woman. Slapstick comedy, with Peter Sellers, Tippy Walker, Merrie Spaeth and Tom Bosley
This is a charming and unjustly neglected rite-of-passage comedy, centring on the obsession of two teenage girls with a womanising concert pianist. Although Peter Sellers and his mistress Paula Prentiss turn in broadly amusing performances, it's the fantasising innocents Tippy Walker and Merrie Spaeth who catch the eye. Nora and Nunnally Johnson's playful script (based on the former's novel) also provides showy supporting roles for Tom Bosley and Angela Lansbury as Walker's parents. If only someone had told director George Roy Hill to stop mucking about with the film speeds, this might have garnered the attention it deserves.
