Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

In this spooky yarn from director Kevin Greutert (a graduate of the Saw franchise), Isla Fisher's mother-to-be finds herself plagued by terrifying hallucinations when she moves to an idyllic vineyard with her hunky husband (Anson Mount). Is she mad, paranoid or just pre-natal? Well, with Anton Sanko's decidedly Herrmann-esqe music score conjuring up a Hitchcock vibe with every note and Greutert alluding to The Wicker Man, Poltergeist and Rosemary's Baby, something paranormal or diabolical must be responsible. A hooded figure and some overly mobile mannequins provide a few scary moments, while a decent cast including Joanna Cassidy (as a psychic), Eva Longoria (as Fisher's vampy pal) and Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons (as her doctor) are always eminently watchable. It's not vintage horror, but the mystery at its heart is still entertainingly left-field.
