Summary

Margaret Ryder has always looked after her deaf parents, Janice and Abel. Long the only contact her folks have had with the speaking world, Margaret struggles with whether she should strike out on her own or not. Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Mare Winningham is forced to choose between devotion to her family and the need to have a life of her own in this powerful, Emmy-winning drama. For years Margaret Ryder (Winningham) has provided a link to the outside world for her deaf parents, but romance brings a change of priorities in her life. Writer Darlene Craviotto, director Joseph Sargent, and actors Phyllis Frelich and Ed Waterstreet (themselves hearing impaired) beautifully convey the isolation of their situation, and make this TV movie compelling viewing.
