Although Armando Manni's directorial debut isn't without humour, the tragedy of the Balkans always impinges on the story of Goran Navojec and Edyta Olszowka, the winners of a Stars in Their Eyes-type contest, who see their prize trip to Italy as the start of something big. But the Bulgarian Elvis and the Romanian Marilyn Monroe are soon confronted with the realities of the region, with the suicide of Yugoslav colonel Toni Bertorelli taking the sheen off Olszowka's dayglow dreams. The descent into porn and the mood of the ending are badly mismanaged, but the leads do enough to retain our sympathy.
