Four stoners, five vegans, three mobsters, four hunters, and a million reasons to free one junkie elephant.
A drug-addicted circus elephant called Jimmy, crazed animal liberationists and a torrent of narcotics-related jokes ensure that Norway's first ever computer-animated feature is definitely not one for the kids. A bunch of thieves, voiced by Woody Harrelson, Phil Daniels and Simon Pegg (who also adapted the Norwegian screenplay), try to kidnap Jimmy in order to retrieve the drugs contraband sewn into his hide. But he escapes and must then try to survive in the wilderness. The visuals are dark and grubby to the point of ugliness, while the script features an explicit bedroom scene, some equally graphic gunshot wounds and a vomiting elephant suffering from withdrawal symptoms. More odd than entertaining, this rarely works as a comedy since laughs are thin on the ground and the characters are all so thoroughly unpleasant. It's a depressing curio that even elephants will want to forget.
