Crime caper starring Ryan O'Neal, Anne Archer and Omar Sharif. Electronics wizard Joseph Wiley is always on the lookout for a scheme to get rich quickly. When he meets a beautiful and wealthy woman in Mexico, he soon finds himself involved in a daring scheme to steal a fortune in emeralds. This "Green Ice" is needed to help fund the rebel fight against a corrupt South American regime.
One of those films that doesn't realise the offence it is causing by making comedy thrills out of a national tragedy. Ryan O'Neal and Anne Archer are fine as the couple involved in a risky heist of gems to fill rebel coffers in Colombia, and Omar Sharif is an entertaining enough villain, but the general light-heartedness of tone sits awkwardly on a story involving torture and armed struggle. Perhaps that's taking it too seriously, but caper movies shouldn't be made of such stern stuff.
