Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

The slacker duo return, having first appeared in supporting roles in director Kevin Smith's 1994 cult hit Clerks. This time, they're heading to Hollywood to thwart the making of a movie reboot. Along the way in this road movie of sorts, the "heterosexual life partners" - again played by Jason Mewes and Smith himself - encounter old flames and foes, populating a haphazard series of comic set-pieces that only intermittently hit their target. Smith uses his perennial stoners to frame a few barbed observations about the industry's obsession with sequels and franchises, but the snag is that, as characters, his protagonists are a little too one-dimensional and unsurprising (this is the seventh of the director's films in which they've appeared). Smith's bulging address book guarantees a succession of big-name cameos to occasionally boost the fun quotient, although he struggles to sustain a watchable narrative over the length of a full feature.
