Susan Dey, of The Partridge Family and LA Law fame, is not an actress easily forgotten. Consequently, she deserves better material than this true-life Texan tragedy, in which she plays a waitress whose affair with political hotshot Price Daniel (Chris Cooper) leads not only to his disgrace, but also ultimately to his murder after he becomes abusive towards her and her children. Both Dey and Cooper (one of John Sayles's stock company of actors) give solid performances, but TV-movie specialist William A Graham overdoes the melodrama.
