Drama starring Paddy Considine and Oscar Isaac. Facing imminent death after exposure to a lethal dose of radiation, a worker at a Russian nuclear facility decides to provide for his family by stealing some plutonium to sell on the black market. However, the criminal he ends up working with is not the most reliable business partner.
A strong performance from Paddy Considine lifts this uneven drama, in which he plays a Russian nuclear power-plant worker who is dangerously irradiated after an accident and given only days to live. With no way to provide for his family after he is gone, he attempts to raise some money by selling some plutonium on the black market with the help of some inept gangsters. Among the supporting cast, a young Oscar Isaac gives an entertaining performance as a low-level criminal who sees Considine as a way to advance himself in the Russian underworld. The tone of the film drifts arbitrarily between the comic and melancholic, but the stakes remain high enough to ensure the end is worth sticking around for.
