Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Sam Elliott is as reassuringly gruff and tough as ever in this action-packed thriller in which he plays a cop who teams up with a lawyer (Peter Weller) to fight police corruption. Forget the implausibilities in the dumb Lethal Weapon-style plot and marvel instead at how director James Glickenhaus (The Exterminator) choreographs the truly spectacular stuntwork. With highlights such as Elliott swinging off 42nd Street cinema balconies like an urban Tarzan and the frenetic Coney Island rollercoaster chase, this kinetic sleaze-fest delivers the action goods. In the mind-engaging department, however, there's little of substance.
