Two bumbling hustlers in the 1920s attempt to gain the fortune of an heiress. Nothing will stop them, not even murder.
Two bumbling hustlers in the 1920s attempt to gain the fortune of an heiress. Nothing will stop them, not even murder.
Stockard Channing easily outshines Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson, while David Shire's jazz arrangements are a major delight, in this occasionally tacky story set in the 1920s. Nicholson and Beatty are two incompetent conmen trying to extract money from an heiress. Director Mike Nichols has an impressive track-record (Presidential fable Primary Colors and Oscar-nominated Closer are his most recent successes). Here, however, his style seems tastelessly gauche, but there are moments of atmosphere to savour - plus Ms Channing.
