Swedish actor/director Alf Kjellin - so memorable in Torment (1944), a tale of troubled adolescence that marked Ingmar Bergman's first filmed screenplay - comes a cropper with this Hollywood hokum about an elderly spymaster determined to steal a load of gold bullion. (Hence the alternative title, A Run On Gold.) Produced by Raymond Stross, it has a splendid job-lot of class actors: Fred Astaire, Richard Crenna, Ralph Richardson, Cesar Romero. They don't help much, though.
