Much of the fun for viewers with older film memories will be in recognising the marvellous British cast, who play out this nostalgic and very human story of the latter war years, leading up to D-Day. The central character is Martha (Ursula Jeans), who adds to her housewife duties with stints as a canteen worker and fire watcher. Her son is away fighting and her two daughters are Wrens living at home. With two navy men billeted at the house, Martha's life is full as she waits for the war's end and a family reunion. Based on a successful play, No Medals, this gentle film was given a nicely ironic title for the sentimental screen version.
