Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

This is a charming little comedy drama from actress/director Diane Keaton (who remains behind the camera here), based on the book by Franz Lidz. Nathan Watt plays the little boy who grows up under the influence of his quirky father (the superb John Turturro) and his even wackier uncles (Maury Chaykin and Seinfeld's Michael Richards) when his mother (Andie MacDowell, in her best performance to date) becomes seriously ill. Keaton capably handles the mix of humour and sadness, and the result is a moving and very funny tale about growing up. A rare film that can make you cry both tears of joy and sadness.
