Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Although it constantly runs the risk of lapsing into stereotyping and culture clash cliché, steady direction from Harish Saluja and discerning performances give this gentle drama its charm and poignancy. As the seasoned public school teacher retiring to his doctor son's Pittsburgh home, Roshan Seth exhibits both a reverence for tradition and stubborn insensitivity as he tries to educate his neglected granddaughter against the wishes of her American mother. Antony Zaki and Nora Bates do well on either side of the generational divide, while Carrie Preston impresses with her restraint in conveying a sense of exploited hospitality.
