Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

A self-consciously arty (and often just plain dumb) yet strangely compelling melodrama, with Al Pacino as a Formula One racing driver who falls in love with a terminally ill Italian beauty, played by Marthe Keller. Thanks to Pacino's addiction to speed, there's a death sentence hanging over both of them, making this a peculiarly morbid experience. It's worth watching for the quality of Pacino's performance and director Sydney Pollack's assured coverage of the races and use of Florence locations.
