After the split with comedy partner Dean Martin, the unique talents of Jerry Lewis made him one of those performers you just couldn't ignore. The French, in particular, seem to find him irresistible. But the man who influenced Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler began at one point to overreach himself and this movie is a sorry reminder of that period. Here, Lewis plays seven roles as potential guardians of precocious little Donna Butterworth, heiress to a fortune. He also directed this clumsy, mawkish and unfunny load of old tripe. Better to remenber the sheer inventive comic genius of The Nutty Professor or The Ladies' Man instead. The 1960s Paramount Technicolor gives this a spurious gloss it doesn't merit.
