Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

Glowing Technicolor and glorious melodrama make this a moody and lurid depiction of father-fixation and jealousy. Gene Tierney drops fiancé Vincent Price after she meets handsome author Cornel Wilde, only for her possessiveness to destroy everything and everyone. This has been described as the first film noir to be shot in colour and Tierney's bad-girl performance earned her the only Oscar nomination of her career. She would lose out in the best actress category to Joan Crawford for her role in Mildred Pierce.
