When an attorney meets the girl of his dreams, he fears that his batty mother will scare her off, so he schemes to eliminate the senile old woman.
Successful lawyer Gordon Hocheiser (George Segal) lives with his sometimes senile, widowed mother (Ruth Gordon). He is at the end of his tether due to the frustration he has trying to get a girlfriend. Whenever he brings a girl home his mother undergoes a remarkable change, springing to life and scuppering his chances. When he falls for his mother's new nurse Louise (Trish Van Devere), Gordon is driven to try and kill his mother to get the girl of his dreams. A fast-paced, jet black comedy with fine performances all around. A genuine cult movie, comparable to Ruth Gordon's subsequent work, Harold and Maude (1971).
