Summary
A documentary about Orson Welles's unfinished three-part film about South America.
A documentary about Orson Welles's unfinished three-part film about South America.
In 1942, the day after he shot the last scene of The Magnificent Ambersons, Orson Welles flew to Brazil to make a semi-documentary, It's All True, which was to be anti-Nazi propaganda financed by the State Department. The film was never finished; meanwhile, RKO cut Ambersons behind Welles's back, sacking him on his return and destroying his Hollywood career. This film mixes interviews, Welles's exhilarating footage of the Rio carnival and a reconstruction of a segment in the intended documentary. It's a riveting piece of cinema archaeology, an unmissable treat for buffs and historians alike that also sheds new light on the Ambersons fiasco.
