Fans of the Aussie sitcom Kath & Kim won't be disappointed by this full-length TV spin-off. Shot in the show's usual mockumentary style - and featuring all the regular characters, catchphrases and running jokes - it follows the titular bickering mother and daughter (co-writers Jane Turner and Gina Riley) as they maniacally prepare for their suburban family Christmas. Mishaps, misunderstandings and exploding emotions complicate their activities, along with a continuing series of clumsy Da Vinci Code-themed occurrences that feel incongruous and fuel the film's somewhat flat climax. But if Turner and Riley's unsubtle physical humour and sight gags aren't always successful, they're richly compensated by the pair's sharply observed satirising of modern life and relationships.
