Summary

Romantic comedy starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. Prince Akeem of Zamunda has a problem: he's enormously rich, incredibly powerful and his father has arranged his marriage. So he travels to New York in search of a woman who will love him for who he is and not for his massive fortune.

John Ferguson

Eddie Murphy reteamed with his Trading Places director John Landis for this fish-out-of-water comedy. Murphy plays the pampered African prince who rebels against his father (James Earl Jones) and heads to America to find a wife, with sidekick Arsenio Hall in tow. Landis is hampered by a script that isn't as clever as it thinks it is and it's left to Murphy to carry the picture, which he does with aplomb (thanks to some wonderful make-up, he also delivers some very funny cameos). The stellar supporting cast includes a pre-stardom Cuba Gooding Jr and Samuel L Jackson, although the biggest laugh is generated by the appearance of screen veterans Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy, reprising their Trading Places roles.
