Summary

Roman slave Lurcio manages to get his hands on a scroll containing the names of the proposed assassins of the Emperor Nero - a document that causes him no end of trouble. He also has to contend with organising his master's orgy and the eruption of a nearby volcano. Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Frankie Howerd dons a toga here for a film version of his TV series based on the life of Roman slave Lurcio. Unfortunately, the blatantly obvious Carry On-style formula (the film is based on an idea by Carry On screenwriter Talbot Rothwell, and series regular Bernard Bresslaw features in the cast) only works sporadically. There's more interest in trying to put names to the plethora of familiar British faces in the cast, among them Patrick Cargill as the Emperor Nero and Michael Hordern as the unfortunate Ludicrus Sextus.
