Romantic comedy based on a true story, starring Nicolas Cage, Bridget Fonda and Rosie Perez. Unable to tip waitress Yvonne Biasi, honest New York cop Charlie Lang offers to give her half the winnings should his lottery numbers come up. Incredibly, the ticket wins $4 million and, much to his wife's dismay, Charlie keeps his promise to Yvonne.
With a title and a scenario worthy of Frank Capra, this cosy little romantic comedy is, incredibly, based on a true story. Nicolas Cage (reuniting with his Honeymoon in Vegas director, Andrew Bergman) plays a good-hearted cop who could easily be related to his baby-kidnapping character in Raising Arizona. Rosie Perez also gives one of her usual performances, shrieking the place down when she discovers that hubby Cage has divided his lottery winnings with waitress Bridget Fonda. Cage, Perez and Fonda are on top form and the result is both charming and disarming.
