With America still neutral, an American news photographer on assignment in Burma is courted by both the Japanese and The Flying Tiger volunteers fighting for China to film the strategic Burma Road.
An American news cameraman (George Montgomery), in Mandalay just before the attack on Pearl Harbor and carrying secret military information, is pursued by two traitorous army personnel (Victor McLaglen, Lynn Bari) in the pay of the Japanese. His life is further complicated when he falls in love with a beautiful, American-educated Chinese girl (Gene Tierney). Director Henry Hathaway injects as much tension as possible into this Oriental melodrama, helped by a Ben Hecht script and some good action sequences. The story is by one Melville Crossman, better known as Darryl F Zanuck.
