Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

This comedy was one of a series of Rip Van Winkle-type movies made at the time, including the much funnier Late for Dinner and soppier Forever Young in which someone, by a variety of devices, pops up in the present-day having been asleep/transported through time from decades before. Here, Eric Roberts and Cheech Marin haven't exactly been sleeping between the 1960s and the 1980s, they've been living in a South American commune. When they return to America, they discover life has moved on and - shock, horror - their former pals are yuppies. Nice idea, but this is silly rather than comical, and the jokes are hammered home far too hard by heavy-handed directors Aaron Russo and David Greenwalt.
