Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

While ballet fans will rejoice at the prospect of seeing Rudolph Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn give a full performance as Armand and Marguerite, those hoping to learn more about the Russian maestro and his art will be sorely disappointed. Given the amount of access permitted director Pierre Jourdain, one might have expected more than a few rehearsal sequences and a lecture, delivered by Bryan Forbes, over Nureyev's preparations to dance Glen Tetley's Field Figures with Deanne Bergsma. But, then, how could Jourdain have possibly provided an in-depth analysis when he clearly had difficulty keeping the leaping star in full shot?
