Summary

Historical adventure starring George Corraface, Marlon Brando, Tom Selleck and Rachel Ward. Christopher Columbus, a 15th-century map-maker, has an all-consuming passion to navigate the oceans and discover a new route to India and China. Convincing the King and Queen of Spain to commission his voyage proves difficult as Spain is at war and the Spanish Inquisition rules the land with terror. But circumstances eventually change, and Columbus sets sail on an epic voyage of discovery.

Review

A star rating of 1 out of 5.

This is not so much a milestone to mark the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America as a millstone round the neck of nearly everyone connected with it. George Corraface, as Columbus, bores for Spain and Rachel Ward's accent as Queen Isabella is almost as bizarre as Tom Selleck's wig. Marlon Brando, who as Torquemada resembles a tethered balloon, puts us on the rack of embarrassment for the waste of his huge talent. John Glen directed, if that's what it's called.
