This thoughtful and convincing British horror oddity explores aspects of immortality with a unique sci-fi spin. The title refers to a soul-snatching being from another dimension that approaches the body at the moment of death. Photographer Robert Stephens captures one such life form in the hope he can claim eternal life. Morbid, intriguing and acted with sensitive conviction (by Stephens, Robert Powell and Jane Lapotaire), director Peter Newbrook's cerebral chiller is a wordy gothic drama masquerading as a supernatural terroriser.
