Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Not the children's TV show, but a vehicle for Tom Walls, well-loved star of the Aldwych farces during the 1920s. He plays burglar Jack Drake, a sort of "Robbing Hood" who lifts from the rich to help the poor. His success makes other local crooks jealous, and thereby hangs this awfully thin tale, enlivened only by the youthful presence of the lovely Lilli Palmer as co-star. A lighter touch would have sped this along nicely, for it takes a long time to get up to speed, and today seems very dated indeed. Still, in its time, this average British film secured a release in the States as The Man with 100 Faces and did Gainsborough's reputation as a production house no end of good.
