Rock 'n' Roll Cop

Review
With 1997 very much in mind, Kirk Wong's acclaimed cop film is a touch more thought-provoking than the average "chop socky" movie. When a Triad gang decimates a Kowloon gambling joint, unconventional Hong Kong islander, Anthony Wong, crosses to the mainland in pursuit of mobster Wing-Kwong Yu. The film makes little advance on the usual crime drama themes, and there is nothing new about a cop and a villain harbouring a passion for the same girl (Carrie Ng). But there are plenty of insights into Sino-colonial relations and some spirited action sequences.
