Romantic comedy drama starring Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka, Deepak Tijori and Mamik. The intense rivalry between Rajput School and Model School comes to a head at the annual cycling race, in which the snobby Shekhar appears the dead-cert favourite against the inadequate and under-fancied Sanjaylal, who may just have a point to prove.
Winner of the 1992 Filmfare award for best film, director Mansoor Khan's delightful comedy drama is a remake of 1979's Breaking Away. Set in the Indian hill town of Dehradun, the plot centres on an annual bicycle race between bitter rivals, the elite Rajput School and the middle-class Model School. Aamir Khan plays Sanjay, a wayward college student at Model who suddenly finds himself thrust into the limelight when he has to compete against Rajput's star pupil Shekhar (Deepak Tijori). It's somewhat amusing watching people obviously long past their school years trying to play 16 again (Khan was 27 at the time). But you'll forgive such implausibilities, because this one remains a joy - even after repeated viewings.
