Summary

Spy adventure starring Roger Moore and Lois Chiles. James Bond is called in to investigate after an Anglo-American "Moonraker" space shuttle disappears during a routine test flight. His mission takes him via Venice to Rio - pursued by the metal-mouthed hitman Jaws - then into the depths of the Amazon jungle, on the trail of evil billionaire Hugo Drax.

Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

The 11th James Bond movie jettisons Ian Fleming's novel and sends 007 into space. Weighed down by clunky special effects and nonexistent plotting, this movie seems to be merely an attempt to update the concept in the wake of Star Wars. Roger Moore is at his least convincing as Bond, Michael Lonsdale makes a lacklustre master criminal and Richard Kiel, the towering henchman Jaws from The Spy Who Loved Me, is reduced to comic relief. Venice and Rio make for attractive stopovers, but too much of the budget is wasted on overblown spectacle, without enough attention being given to the basics.
