Drama based on a true story, starring Shirley Jones and Ina Balin. Vietnam, 1975. Fearing the imminent fall of Saigon, two American women attempt to evacuate the orphans cared for by the formidable Madam Ngai. However, they face many hurdles in a desperate race against time and bureaucracy in a city in crisis.
Having established herself on stage, Ina Balin made only a moderate impression on Hollywood. However, she will never be forgotten for the courage she displayed during the Vietnam War, when she helped 400 children from the An Lac orphanage escape to safety as the battle for Saigon raged around them. Balin plays herself in this creditable re-creation, which owes as much to the spirit of beloved Ingrid Bergman vehicle The Inn of the Sixth Happiness as to hard facts. John Llewellyn Moxey directs deferentially, while Shirley Jones, as a Georgia housewife, and orphanage principal Beulah Quo provide solid support.
