Set in a small town in Kansas during the days before the town's annual Fourth of July parade, this rural drama follows Rachel Kirby whose life is thrown into turmoil when her estranged, drifter husband Matt returns after spending seven years in prison to ask her to let him be a part of her life again which also affects Rachel's teenage daughter Tilda and Rachel's mother Sarah.
In the three decades during which the TV movie has evolved, the majority of films in the genre have been distinctly second rate. Directed with considerable care by Peter Hunt, this compelling drama bucks the trend in a major way. Set in a small Kansas town on the eve of the annual Fourth of July parade, the story focuses on the impact on three women of the return of a recently released prisoner. Frederic Forrest gives one of his best performances, inspiring solid work from his co-stars in the process.
