Director Roar Uthaug returns for this confident follow-up to his surprisingly enjoyable Norwegian romp from 2022. This time around, folklore expert Nora (Ine Marie Wilmann) is asked to take a look at a gigantic hibernating troll - but she foolishly wakes him up, discovering that he's very angry indeed. The rest of the plot focuses on Nora figuring out (a) why the troll's so annoyed and (b) why he's purposely stomping towards the city of Trondheim. Most of the original cast is reunited here, with the players' easy-going chemistry going some way to making up for goofy plotting and crazy leaps of narrative logic. Meanwhile, Tomb Raider-style side-quests serve to distract from the fact that this sequel is much smaller than its predecessor: the Norwegian military, for example, seems to consist of one man in a helicopter. Yet, there's a cheerful faux-seriousness to this tale that can't help but win you over - and fans of kaiju movies will enjoy the Godzilla-esque finale.
