Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

The title of this sequel to The Magnificent Seven is more enticing than truthful, for Yul Brynner is the sole returnee from John Sturges's blistering translation of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Of the newcomers, trusty tough guys Warren Oates and Claude Akins alone cut the mustard as Brynner and his band attempt to liberate a Mexican village from the slavery imposed by a megalomaniac father grieving for his dead son. Director Burt Kennedy could always be depended upon to grind out robust westerns, but Larry Cohen's derivative script gives him too little to get his teeth into.
