Dating, weddings, and even divorce have all made ripe subjects for movie comedies - but this may be one of the first to focus on a marriage-preparation course. Robin Williams slips into manic stand-up mode to play Reverend Frank, the semi-psychotic clergyman guiding engaged couple Sadie (Mandy Moore) and Ben (John Krasinski) down the aisle. Intent on teaching the youngsters that marriage isn't a bed of roses, the rampaging Reverend bans sex, bugs their apartment and saddles them with two mewling, puking robot babies. Williams thunders through his scenes, tossing out one-liners ("Let's get the flock out of here") by the dozen. When he's off-screen, though, the film grinds to a halt and the dull romance between Sadie and Ben is revealed as little more than a prop for the comedian's patented shtick.
Summary
A couple planning their wedding approach an eccentric vicar to perform the ceremony, but there is a catch. The interfering minister refuses to perform the service until they have completed a course of gruelling challenges designed to test their dedication to each other and prove they are ready for married life. Comedy, starring Robin Williams, Mandy Moore and John Krasinski.
