Summary

Comedy starring Sidney James, Barbara Windsor and Kenneth Williams. In Georgian England all travellers are fair game to the roguish band of highwaymen led by Dick Turpin. The Bow Street runners are at their wits' end: little do they know that Dick has the most ingenious of disguises - when he's not a gentleman of the night, he's the Reverend Flasher.

Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Packed with more than the usual number of smutty innuendos, this spoof on period adventures, ranging from George Arliss in Dr Syn to the bodice-rippers starring James Mason and Margaret Lockwood, does not live up to the team's previous best. It is chiefly memorable for being Sid James's 19th and last Carry On. He plays feared highwayman Dick Turpin, who masquerades as country vicar the Reverend Flasher. Also playing a double role, Barbara Windsor gives one of her best performances of the series as Turpin's sidekick, while Jack Douglas is good value as the bungling Bow Street runner who simply hasn't a clue.
