Our Score
In this sharp-tongued coming-of-age comedy from director Miguel Arteta (The Good Girl), Michael Cera stars as timid, Sinatra-loving teen Nick Twisp, who's desperate to lose his virginity. However, when he falls for Sheeni (Portia Doubleday), the free-spirited girl of his dreams, he realises he'll need to develop a rebellious streak to win her heart. Enter Francois Dillinger (Cera again), a moustachioed, chain-smoking, bad-boy alter ego who leads Nick on a trail of destruction that wrecks relationships, cars and a sizeable chunk of his home town. Gustin Nash's script takes several well-aimed pot shots at typical teen-movie conventions, but has the tendency to occasionally wallow in the crude humour of the American Pie films. Cera plays Nick with the same deadpan bewildered charm that served him well in Juno and TV's Arrested Development, and there are hilarious cameos from Fred Willard as a peacenik neighbour and Justin Long as Sheeni's drug-addled brother.

Awkward 16-year-old Nick Twisp meets the girl of his dreams while on holiday in a caravan park. When the time comes for him to return home, she advises him to become a rebel so he is sent away from his parents and he can move close to her. Nick adopts a bad-boy alter-ego to help him with his misdeeds, but it is not long before events begin to spiral out of control. Comedy based on the novel by CD Nash, starring Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Jean Smart, Zach Galifianakis, Erik Knudsen and Adhir Kalyan.
