Our Score
This blockbuster offering from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Michael Bay (Transformers, Pearl Harbour) sees a meteor "the size of Texas" heading for Earth - as indeed there was in Deep Impact, released the same year. It's up to Bruce Willis and his motley oil-drilling gang (who have "the Wrong Stuff") to blast off and save us all. In hallmark Bruckheimer style, it's flashy, overwrought and excessive, but there's a knowing irony in the script and in the performances of Willis, Billy Bob Thornton and Steve Buscemi. The loved-up subplot between Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler is a low point, but, within such an expert thrill ride, it's not the end of the world.

Nasa discovers an asteroid the size of Texas is on a collision course with Earth, so a drilling expert is recruited to train a team of misfits to transport a nuclear device into outer space to destroy it - but having had no experience of space travel, the reluctant astronauts find themselves seriously out of their depth. Sci-fi thriller, with Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Michael Clarke Duncan, Billy Bob Thornton and Steve Buscemi.
