Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

Take one genius (who just happens to be a talking dog), add his adopted human son and a time machine, and what do you get? A crazy, irreverent animated history lesson from DreamWorks that's terrific family entertainment. Thanks to Mr Peabody's WABAC invention, the canine and his kid are able to go back in time to meet history's greats, from King Tut to Gandhi. But when Sherman breaks the rules in a bid to impress a girl, the space-time continuum gets all messed up as the past and present begin to merge, and it's left to our heroes to disentangle things. Part time-trip extravaganza, part father/son bonding story, Rob Minkoff's film is cleverly written, warm-hearted, fast-paced and fun. The historical references will go right over the heads of younger kids. But don't worry, they'll still love it.
