Boxing comedy starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone. Two former heavyweight rivals are coaxed back into the ring for one last bout that will finally break their tie set 30 years before.
Boxing-movie legends Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro square off in this lightweight yarn about two over-the-hill former prizefighters coaxed out of retirement 30 years after they last faced each other in the ring. As both men struggle to prepare physically for the rematch, they also find themselves having to deal with other unfinished business in their lives. Director Peter Segal's predictable film serves up the genre's typical supporting players in the form of a cantankerous old trainer (a wisecracking Alan Arkin), a long-lost son (The Wolf of Wall Street's Jon Bernthal) and the woman who fell for both contenders when they were in their prime (Kim Basinger). Stallone and De Niro give knowing winks towards their characters from Rocky and Raging Bull, but the surprise-free script rarely rises above an extended comedy sketch parodying past glories.
