Our Score
Having been a hit on stage and then as a radio serial, Dorothy and Campbell Christie's play is ably brought to the screen by the little-known Bob McNaught. It's very much in the Edgar Wallace tradition, with Nigel Patrick's friends in the racing fraternity standing by him after his bitchy wife, Moira Lister, is accidentally killed during a drunken squabble. The means by which the corpse arrives in Liverpool and the final twist strain the credibility slightly. But the cat-and-mouse game involving Michael Hordern (who excels as the dogged detective determined to nail Patrick) is teased out with mischievous ingenuity.

A racehorse owner has a drunken quarrel with his wife that ends in her accidental death. Terrified he will be thought a murderer, he hides her body and covers up the evidence - but a wily police inspector is convinced he has something to hide. Crime drama, starring Nigel Patrick, Moira Lister and Michael Hordern.
