Our Score
This self-deprecating and winningly indulgent cosmic adventure from director/producer/star Clint Eastwood is set in the ultra-realistic world of Nasa operations. The irresistible premise finds four elderly astronauts (played by Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland and James Garner) finally given their chance to go into orbit 40 years after being sidelined by a monkey, as no one else has the obsolete knowledge to prevent a Cold-War era Russian telecommunications satellite from crashing to Earth. There's absolutely no point in taking it seriously, and even the brilliantly realised space-set climax lacks any real thrills or suspense because the outcome is obvious from the start. But Eastwood and his co-stars shine as the ageing spacemen, wheezing through basic training, navigating past feuds and becoming all-American heroes in the process

A former Air Force test pilot, who was sidelined from space exploration because of his difficult character, is recruited 40 years later to help America's post-Cold War Russian allies. Teaming up with three fellow veteran airmen, he uses his expertise in navigation to stop a malfunctioning Soviet satellite from crashing to Earth. Adventure, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. With Tommy Lee Jones, James Garner, Donald Sutherland and James Cromwell.
