Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

In this endearing sports drama, Keanu Reeves stars as a drifter who agrees to coach a Little League team of boys from a tough housing project in Chicago. In an atmosphere where guns speak louder than words, and war paint is real blood, the children learn that what matters in life is turning up, even if you don't win. The coach is taught his own lessons of redemption, which is to live up to the principles of teacher Diane Lane. It's the sort of idea that Warner Bros used to turn out regularly in the 1930s. Despite his charm, Keanu Reeves hasn't the authority to carry it through, and his performance only underlines the clichés.
