Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

A very interesting and extremely clever movie, which examines in depth the career of a high-ranking German officer during his trial for war crimes. What lends this plot value is that the film, though set after the First World War, was made and released before the end of the Second World War, and proved to be extraordinarily prescient. Director Andre De Toth keeps the story suspenseful and elicits excellent performances from Marsha Hunt and Henry Travers, perhaps best known for his angel Clarence in It's a Wonderful Life. This is intelligent movie-making and deserves to be better known.
